Charlotte

A working southern city that has quietly become very good at hosting.

CityGolfFine DiningEventsWeddingFamilyCulture

Charlotte is a banking and business city with a growing restaurant scene, serious golf within thirty minutes in several directions, and an airport that connects almost everywhere. It is not a leisure destination in the way St. Barts is, and it does not pretend to be.

What it does well is executive travel: fly in, meet, eat well, play golf, fly out. It also serves as a practical base for the Carolinas — the mountains west, the coast east, and a motorsport industry concentrated just north of the city.

Spring and autumn are the seasons; summer is hot and humid, and the golf starts early.

01

Why go

Executive efficiency

A major hub airport, strong private aviation, and a compact business core.

Golf

A concentration of good courses, several private, within a short drive of the city.

Dining that has arrived

A restaurant scene that has improved sharply, with private rooms suited to client entertaining.

A base for the Carolinas

Mountains, coast and wine country all within a comfortable drive.

02

Arrive

Charlotte Douglas is a major hub with extensive connections and private handling; Concord-Padgett to the north also serves general aviation and is convenient for the motorsport corridor.

The city is easy to move around by car, and transfers within it are short.

  • Charlotte Douglas for connections; Concord for general aviation
  • Short transfer times across the city
  • Race weekends affect hotel availability considerably

03

Stay

Hotels uptown for business and in South End and SouthPark for a quieter stay, plus residences for longer visits. Lake Norman, thirty minutes north, offers waterfront houses for groups and families.

  • Uptown for business, SouthPark and South End for calm
  • Lake Norman for waterfront houses and group stays
  • Race and conference weeks tighten availability

04

At the table

A genuine restaurant culture has developed here over the last decade — southern cooking done seriously, good steakhouses, and a strong independent scene in South End, NoDa and Plaza Midwood.

Private dining rooms are available and comparatively easy to arrange for client dinners and group entertaining.

  • Southern cooking, steakhouses and independent neighbourhood restaurants
  • Private dining rooms suited to client entertaining
  • Requests remain subject to venue confirmation

05

After dark

Cocktail bars, brewery taprooms in South End, hotel bars uptown, and live music. Evenings are relaxed rather than late, and the city empties on Sunday.

  • Cocktail bars, taprooms and hotel bars
  • Live music and a compact walkable core in South End
  • Access requests remain subject to venue approval

06

Weddings and private events

Hotels, country clubs, historic venues and estates outside the city host weddings and corporate events, with a solid regional supplier base and pricing well below the coastal cities.

Lake Norman and the countryside north and west offer outdoor settings; permissions vary by venue and are confirmed in writing.

  • Hotels, clubs, historic venues and country estates
  • Corporate and leadership programmes are well supported
  • North Carolina licensing is straightforward
  • Outdoor venue permissions confirmed in writing

07

Experience

Golf is the main draw. Beyond it: the motorsport corridor north of the city, whitewater and outdoor centres on the river, the Blue Ridge two hours west, and the Carolina coast three to four hours east.

  • Golf across public and private courses
  • The motorsport corridor and related experiences
  • The Blue Ridge Mountains within a two-hour drive
  • Museums and the uptown cultural campus
